The 5–9 Wannabe Trad Wife

Hi, I’m Sophia — corporate by day, cozy home creator by night. From 5 to 9 p.m., you’ll usually find me in the kitchen learning to cook, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the domestic skills I somehow never picked up along the way.
Let’s be clear: I am not a natural housewife. When my fiancé and I moved in together four years ago, it became painfully obvious that I needed a cleaner, a cook, and a personal grocery shopper. Unfortunately, my laziness, and the fact that I’m not a millionaire, left me with a rude awakening: I was severely lacking in the homemaking department.
Adam actually taught me how to cook when we were dating. He also introduced me to other essential life skills, like the shocking savings of an in-network dentist and why you should contribute to a 401(k) the second you start working (because who knows if I’ll ever get to retire?). Flash forward to present day, where I’m still learning, still struggling, but hey, small wins count in my “wannabe tradwife” era. I won’t sugarcoat it: half the time I’m Googling cooking terms or re-reading the same recipe step ten times. The other half I’m either burning dinner or serving it questionably raw. My bulldog Duke observes all of this like a judgmental sous-chef, while my saint of a fiancé cheers me on anyway. Add nine siblings who’ll try anything once, and you’ve got the perfect audience for my kitchen chaos.
And did I mention the former-shopaholic part? I’ve redirected that habit into homemaking, which is how I went from collecting designer bags to borrowing library cookbooks like they’re limited-edition drops. Now I’m learning to appreciate the magic of making something from scratch: a meal that didn’t burn (we hope), a table that actually looks cozy, or an evening routine that feels purposeful. Turns out, pouring that energy into my home is way more satisfying than impulse shopping…and significantly easier on my credit card.
This blog is my journey toward a softer, more present evening life full of cozy meals. Watch my journey full of imperfect attempts, small wins, and plenty of Duke-approved recipes. It’s realistic, warm, sometimes chaotic, but always improving.
Welcome to my 5pm to 9pm life, I’m so glad you’re here!
